My dream - a filibuster-proof Senate
Fri May 16, 2008 at 12:28:56 PM PDT
We currently have 51 Senators voting with us. I know that counts whining Joe, but at least he sticks with us on organizing the Senate.
Can we make it to 60? Do we need to?
Lying about Capital Gains taxes
Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 09:19:45 AM PDT
Is it any surprise that the folks who have the most to gain from low capital gains tax rates are lying?
From John (I have a rich wife) McSame to the multitude of multi-millionare pundits who couldn't analyze a spreadsheet if you told them their children's trust funds depended on it, we're being lied to.
Lower capital gains tax rates do NOT result in more tax receipts. Surprised? I thought not.
Here's why....
Breaking - Feds trying to stop collapse
Sun Mar 16, 2008 at 07:30:14 PM PDT
I hope there's a country left to govern by fall. The Feds just slashed interest another .25% on SUNDAY!
Bear Stearns is being bought for less than 10 cents on the dollar, and the Fed is pouring more money into the credit houses to try to prevent a crash.
Republican meltdown is a scam
Fri Jan 18, 2008 at 01:00:31 PM PDT
They're all melting down. 911-Rudy, RoboMitt, the Huckster, Sleepy Fred, Straight-Lyin' John. Their campaigns are all imploding.
But it is not by accident - It's a scam.
Letter from 1919
Thu Jan 10, 2008 at 10:33:20 AM PDT
Just in case somebody needs a break from our exciting political season, don't forget the flu!
I was digging through some of my Great-Grandfather's papers and came across a letter from my great-aunt written on March 25, 1919.
At the time, her husband was a young doctor in the small farming town of Chambers, Nebraska. Today's population is 306, so it was probably higher then, but it is at the edge of the Nebraska Sandhills, where farming is marginal.
The letter...
They're all GREAT compared to the alternatives & Poll.

I know some of you have strong opinions about who you want to be the Democratic Nominee for President. I watch flaming hate-fests about one or another candidate, picking apart the smallest mistake by some campaign volunteer, etc. as if it were significant.
I've been down with a touch of flu the last few days, so I got to watch both 'debates' this week on CNN. Oy! Let me remind you...
No Republican Nominee
Mon Dec 10, 2007 at 07:56:31 AM PDT
I predict that by about March 1, every Republican Presidential candidate will have imploded to the point where none will be left.
Just look at what's been going on the last couple of weeks:
Wolf acts as the Huckster's mouthpiece
Thu Nov 29, 2007 at 03:39:17 PM PDT
Wolf Blitzer just had Mike Huckabee on and asked about the Huckster's plan for eliminating the IRS. Huck went on about the "Fair Tax" plan. Sounded wonderful - eliminate all Federal Taxes and replace it with a 'consumption tax', which means a Federal Sales Tax.
But Wolf missed the all-important question....
Freep the Gore Polls
Fri Oct 12, 2007 at 08:52:50 AM PDT
Freep these polls if you agree that Al Gore deserves the Nobel Prize at The Wall Street Urinal and CNN
The Wingnuts are freaking (Rush's bloodpressure is probably out of sight, even if he won't admit it).
At least it will divert them from trashing any more 12-year olds for a while.
Health Care - Our health care system sucks.
Wed Oct 03, 2007 at 10:38:23 AM PDT
Health care - death by spreadsheet, leading cause of bankruptcy, denial of payment after approval, uninsured children, etc. We've all heard the stories. Well - I've perused the WHO's annual health care report for 2006 and looked into their statistical annex . Take a look at a few numbers and you can see just where the "Greatest Health Care in the World" ranks.

It's going to be Karl as AG
Mon Aug 27, 2007 at 10:25:45 AM PDT
Who else can Bush trust to keep his and Cheney's bodies buried until the next Republican takes over on January 20, 2009?
The one, the only, Karl "THE math" Rove.

Proof of failure
Thu Jul 12, 2007 at 06:42:17 AM PDT
We Kossaks all know it, but it should be stressed to anyone who still isn't convinced - The headline: "Government report: Al Qaeda strongest since September 11, 2001" from CNN is absolute proof positive of the failure of Dumbya's Global War on Terra.
Heaven knows, the MSM won't do it.

The Republican Limbo - how low can they go? +Poll!
Mon Apr 30, 2007 at 09:53:31 AM PDT
The mind boggles.
In November of 2000, while the outcome of the election was still being litigated, I had a conversation with a Republican friend. He told me how IMPORTANT it was that George Bush be elected. How the good clean Republicans were going to wash away the filth of Saruman.... I mean Clinton. GWB was going to rebuild Reagan's shining city on the hill with tax cuts and deregulation.
Health care scam
Thu Jan 25, 2007 at 11:08:45 AM PDT
With all the Iraq resolutions and other news items, has anybody really looked at the consequences of Bush's Health Care proposal?
It is the ultimate expression of Rovian/Orwellian Republicanism - It's sold as good for the average taxpayer, but it gives tax breaks to the wealthy and businesses, does nothing for the poor, and is a sneak attack on Social Security and Medicare.

Republican Kleptomania - they just can't help themselves
Fri Nov 10, 2006 at 07:32:46 AM PDT
In Crazy Katherine Harris's old district, stealing elections must be a habit they just can't break: (Of course, Sarasota County votes Democratic - are you surprised?)
From a Common Cause press release: http://www.commonblog.com/...
"Common Cause is calling for an independent investigation into the alarmingly high number of missing votes in the District 13 Congressional race in Sarasota County. More than 18,000 voters, nearly 13% of those who showed up at the polls, cast votes in other races but not the closely contested Congressional race between Democrat Christine Jennings and Republican Vern Buchanan. It represents a massive undercount compared to other counties, including Manatee, which reported an undercount of 2%..:

Something funny is going on in Montana Results
Wed Nov 08, 2006 at 12:30:50 AM PDT
The Montana SOS just pulled the count from Yellowstone county where Tester was leading. That's reduced Tester's lead.
Don't know if there's something fishy going on with the corrupt Mr. Burns and the Republicans trying to save the Senate, or if they're just correcting something.
Can't get through on the phone.

Republican Paper Tiger - the vaunted 'ground game'
Tue Oct 24, 2006 at 01:23:03 PM PDT
Why do I say the vaunted Republican GOTV ground game is a paper tiger?
Because it is based on winning narrow races in battleground states and districts. There is no Republican ground game in Idaho or Montana or Nebraska or Wyoming because Karl Rove and the RNC never envisioned those being battlegrounds.
They laughed at Dean's 50 State Strategy, and now it's about to bite them in the ass!

How to counter "Osama's gonna get you if you vote Dem!" ad
Fri Oct 20, 2006 at 10:11:13 AM PDT
UPDATE: Dumb ad will only get play once - on Faux News, of course. Another Rovian sucker punch for the news media.
My suggestions still stand.
News reports say the RNC is getting ready to run a Karl Rove ad with Osama bin Forgotten's favorite "death to America" quotes. I guess the idea is to scare everyone into voting Republican or Osama's gonna getcha!
I'm not sure why they think reminding us that OBL is still on the lose five years after 9/11 is a good idea, but it should be easy to turn this ad back against the Repugs.
